Re: 1962 Johnson 28HP RX-10 Super Seahorse

OK, so I got the motor put back on the boat. Was able to get it started after a couple of pulls, but it would die after about 5-10 seconds. It would then start on every pull, but again it would die every 5-10 seconds. Any suggestions on what to do now?

Try squeezing the primer bulb before it dies out.

It could be starving for gas from a dirty carb.

Would a dirty carb also be the reason that gas is dumping out the front when I open the choke? When it dies the primer bulb is not as firm as it would be otherwise. So I do prime it again, this doesn't happen all the time, but has happened frequently.

Sounds like it's flooding. Float is not set correctly or the needle valve is stuck/sticking. Time for a carb rebuild....

I am reviewing wiring diagram shown below. We can see that the wire came from ?M? terminal of the key switch to the cylinder coil. This coil will be powered by 12v continually and be fired. Can somebody to answer for this question? I do now think that diagram is right.

The cutout switch is very reliable.----No need to bypass it.-----What is your motor doing / not doing.------Also best to start a new thread / topic.

I'm new don't know what a new thread topic is , I'm also new to the boat motors I don't think I have a cut off switch that's why I'm wondering if I can just bypass it with the wire I'm not getting spark
