I don't know when Merc introduced the pee stream to ensure that your water pump was pumping water up to the powerhead.
The hose barb that feeds it is about 1/8" pipe thread to about 1/8" hose. The pickup is usually either off the exhaust manifold water jacket or the water jacket that covers the tops of the pistons.....on V higher hp engines it can come out the top of the block if not plumbed off the tstats.

The outlet is usually on the Starboard rear of the engine, in the lower cowling and angled down at about 45 degrees, so that the operator of the engine can see it as they usually sit on the starboard side of the boat (nowadays).

Starboard side, near the back. It's hard to find unless there's water coming out the hole.

Sometimes those get blocked and you need a small wire to poke in there to get it flowing again.

On a 1962 9.8 or 6 the telltale is on the port side of the engine pan just ahead of the center mounting stud and nut. Why do people anwser threads that don't have a CLUE?

Is that a question or just your arrogance showing?

Sorry Zolt, I wasn't guessing. My old 9.8 does have the hole on the starboard side, but because mine and your's are a couple years apart, there may be subtle differences.

Why do people answer threads that don't have a CLUE?

Is that a question or just your arrogance showing?

Just a comment on people posting without giving a knowledgeable answer, that is why most people ask a question for a knowledgeable answer, not a answer that is just a guess or someone padding posts.
