My buddy and I just got done putting in new condensers, points, coils and water pump. The shop wanted $450.00 to get it running. I bought the motor on an auction for $100.00 and figured what the heck we will try fixing it ourselves, bought a repair manual and and it works great, we had a great time working on it and learning about how these motors work. My mechanical skills are very limited but I have a total of $65.00 worth of parts and four hours of my time. Spent two hours on the lake with it last night and it moves my 14' boat like a scalded cat. My question is it has dual knobs on the front of the cowling, the outside is for lean or rich mixture and the the one set inside that dial is very touchy. I can get it to run well but I have to keep adjusting it depending on whether I'm at a troll speed or wide open. Are they this touchy or am I doing something wrong. The best setting at trolling speed seems to be the rich/lean (outside dial) at about 5 o' clock and the inside knob at about the 8 o' clock, but when I go to wide open I have to adjust the inside knob to about the 6 0' clock position. I am running 24:1 mix. Thanks!

Those are mixture control adjustments. It may be time to overhaul the carb. You should be able to set them and not have to keep readjusting them.

Set the high speed one to where it runs the best at full throttle. Then slow down and set the slow speed one for best idle. Hou shouldn't have to mess with them once set. BTW, the numbers mean nothing. You can pull the knob off and put it back on pointing to any number you like. Actaully you are supposed to put them back on at mid-scale, once the adjustment is correct.

They can be set up with different rods but if you look at the carb itself, the high speed is the lower one and the low speed is the upper one. Snug up the nuts around the needles and then adjust the needles as previously stated. They should not move once set.

That is the last year the 10hp was made. It's a great engine. Up here I could sell it for $400 or so.
