I recently bought my first boat. It came with a 63 johnson 40 HP Seahorse.
I put it in the water this weekend fired it up, let it run for a couple of minutes, and the overheating light came on.
It was not discharging any water from the pee hole. The previous owner told me he had changed the impeller last summer. So i got my hands on the manual and removed the lower end as described.
I noticed the absence of two things that the manual shows should be there.
The first was the o-ring that sits at the base of the pump and the drive shaft.
The second thing i noticed missing was the lower water pump plate that the manual shows.
Also the small o-ring was positioned in the groove between the splines and the bump just below the splines.
Would any of these be the cause of my lack of water flow?
The impeller looks to be in good condition and there isn't anything blocking water flow in the lower end.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
