I have a 1963 Merc 1000. Did Mercury ever make a trim/tilt unit for this model? Would a t/t unit off of a newer inline 6 work?
Thanks

They didn't make a trim / tilt for that model.

While you *could* bolt-on retrofit the trim rams from a later inline 6, it's rumored that the swivel area isn't really strong enough to take the load.

Might be best to take your leg apart and bolt it to the entire transom bracket assembly from a trim/tilt inline. It will bolt up, but it's a project.

Or you could buy an aftermarket power-trim setup.

-W

-W

Re: 1963 Merc trim/tilt

Thanks for the reply Clams. What would be the best source for a newer inline 6 swivel bracket and trim unit? Ebay, or if I could locate a "scrapyard" which specializes in junker boats. The only inline 6 motors I've found on ebay have been too expensive for just needing the bracket and tilt. What is the issue with the swivel area not being strong enough? Does the power trim add that much stress to the swivel bracket?
Thanks
