1965 9.5 Seahorse: What's that crunching sound in my engine?

Was on the lake. Engine started fine. Suddenly lost power, but the motor was still running. Sort of like being in neutral and turning the throttle and nothing happens. Gunned the motor just a few seconds still nothing. Motor was running but no power. I knew the prop was spinning because I could see the jet stream under water. Got home, put the motor in neutral(without starting) prop turned freely. Put the motor in drive turned the prop slow and it sounded like there was rocks and dirt inside the prop. Took the prop off, didn't see any metal shaving or broken pieces. I did however find that this part in the attached picture had rubber that was chewed up broken. Any idea what this part is. I couldn't find it on my parts catalog but it fits inside the prop? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a bad prop hub. Take it to a prop shop for repair or get a new prop.
