I have a 65 johnson meteor II, starts right up, idles fine, runs up to 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and then bogs down. I have changed the plugs, new fuel tank, lines and bulb and additional fuel filter in line before motor. I have run 1/2 of tank of fuel with a strong mix of Sea Foam through the motor (current tank im running is still sea foam mix). Have sprayed sea foam into carbs, and used alot of carb cleaner. Again, the boat fires right up will idle fine and run at about 1/3 speed. If I use the throttle and spray starting fluid continually into the carb I can get the motor to rev up and get the boat to about 40 mph. It seems like the motor is starving for fuel...

I'm at the river now and would love to get it running right today.

Also, I can't seem to find a carb kit for this model on line. A local suppler that has alot of parts for this motor could not find a part # for a kit but has individual parts listed for the carb.

Throw the starting fluid in the trash before you trash the motor. There's no oil in it!! If you want to spray fuel to troubleshoot put some premix in a spray bottle.
Sounds like the high speed jets are obstructed. Clean the carburetor paying special attention to the jets and orifices. You may need a copper or brass wire to poke in some of the small holes to scrape out varnish and crud.

thank you for the reply, I have two problems with rebuilding the carbs. First, I got the motor with the bolts stripped so I'm going to have to drill and back them out. second, when I get the carb off I want to rebuild it and cannot find a rebuild kit, online or at a shop, cant even find a part number.
I will get the carb off clean it out and post the results...
Thanks again...

It was Definitely the carb. One chamber (bowl) is completely corroded and rusted. Looks more like battery corrosion but red. Any ideas on what could cause this? I'd like to fix the problem before I clean it and put it back. I'm going to start a new thread for the carb problem... see the attached picture.

I had a feeling... I left the boat at the river and only took the carb home, will check the compression this weekend. If thats the case, it sure ran good on 3 cylinders...
