Hi, I recently bought a boat with a 1965 Renault engine, I can't find parts for it anywhere so I was wondering if anyone knows what engine I can replace it with that will bolt up to the drive I have. I am assuming by what I've read that it is a Mercruiser stern drive, but I can find no #'s on it anywhere to be sure. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

You may be able to get something to fit with some relatively minor modifications. With enough welding and/or machining you can get ANYTHING to bolt to ANYTHING. Do you have the capability to do your own fabrication or do you have to pay someone to do it? If you have to pay someone to do it the price is going to be MUCH more than the boat is worth.

Hi, I have a 1965 Starcraft Jupiter with a 60hp renault engine and a model 0 mercruiser outdrive. I found a few scattered parts (Head Gasket, Distributor Cap, Rotor) on e-bay but they are definitely few and far between.

What kind of boat is your motor in?

Not to bring up an old topic......there are many parts for the old Renault engine packages. It takes some effort, but they can be found if hard core about it.

To say parts can not be found is inaccurate.

I have just about rebuilt the entire aft transom of a Mercruiser 60 package.....and all the parts are NOS.

That is funny. I doubt a starter could be found at JC Whitney. I would try some of the Renault lovers on the net. If I am not mistaken (which I could be), the Mercruiser engine is a modified engine from the Renault R8.

Also.....if the price is not an issue....you can call around to the local Mercruiser dealers and see if they have one NOS (New Old Stock). The first thing you should tell them, is the parts are no longer available. They will know how to help you better if they know this. Most do not know that the parts can not be ordered from Mercruiser.......but some do (I will say in my adventures....that it is rare....and will try to order NLA parts......had this happen twice).

The last price on that starter was $165.85, and you may be able to get it at a discount....but don't bet on it.

Also....if you can not find a starter, you may be able to have the one you have reworked. It may be expensive......so you will have to weigh your options carefully.
