Re: 1966 Evinrude 18 stuck in reverse.
Hello again cb. No worries, the froth is perfectly normal. It's just unburnt fuel/oil mix and exhaust gasses that have mixed with the water. Everything looks pretty good actually. I would get a new impeller just to be safe, however. You can pick one up here at iboats for about $10, many NAP autoparts stores also sell them under the "Sierra" brand. Good to know that O'Reilly's does too. Installing it is pretty much just the reverse of removing it. Take care to properly align and seat the copper tube, shown in the fist picture, with the top of the water pump housing. It can be a little tricky and takes some practice. An extra pair of hands and a flashlight help a lot. Removing the spark plugs will also allow you to freely rotate the flywheel (clockwise only) by hand which will help you realign the drive shaft. Once you've got it all put back together, do another barrel test, in deeper water this time, and see it it will pump as it should. If not, you'll need to drop the LU again and give it another shot. It can take 4-5 tries to get it sometimes, so don't get discouraged. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.
