1966 Evinrude Ski Twin Starter Problem.

I cant get power from the solenoid to the starter.

Test done and there is power to the battery side of the solenoid (power cable connection and solenoid post). When I turn the key, there is power to the engine harness side of the solenoid post, but none to the power cable running to the starter.

replaced frayed wire from cut off switch to under flywheel and checked other connections. Beating my head against engine block didn't help either.

Suggestions?

thank you.

That lead that comes from the solenoid to the cut out switch, temporarily ground it and try again. Does it now fire?

If you connect ohmmeter leads to the large posts, and connect leads from your battery to the 2 small posts, can you hear an audible click and get continuity across the large posts?

Is there a fuse next to the solenoid to check?

ground the cut out switch wire to another source. nothing. No clicks. the relay box does not have a fuse system. ugh. time to take it to mechanic i guess. can't understand where problem would be in three feet of clean wiring.

So you are getting battery voltage on the starter side of the solenoid when you hit the key, but no battery voltage at the starter? Run some fresh cable, must be damaged internally.

DO a voltage drop test across that section of wiring.

I know this seems obvious if it clicks and doesn't start and no voltage out to starter it's the solenoid. But I probably missed something.

Thats the weird thing steelspike, he says he has voltage out to starter, just not at starter. Losing the voltage in the short run from solenoid to starter.

In his post #1 he says that he does not have power from solenoid to starter but does on the battery side of solenoid or at least that's the way I read it.

Re: 1966 Evinrude Ski Twin Starter Problem.

So I ended up grounding the solenoid post to the engine block with battery cables and it fired up. looked under the flywheel at the safety switch and found that a ground wire was missing. in five minutes i had the safety switch under the flywheel ground and it fired right up.

so it wasn't getting ground to the solenoid.

all is well now. thank you all for the suggestions.
