Hey all, i got this rude' i've been working as most of you know. After i rebuilt the carbs i took it out to the lake again only to find that the rebuild did not help. HOWEVER i did find somthing interesting, while i was trying to pull a spark pulg to make sure it was firing my shirt covered the left barrel of the carb, i damn near flew over board that thing took off so fast. when i pulled my shirt away i took off even faster for a second then it bogged back down again. I thought i had bad carbs but then i relized that a leak in the intake would cause this reaction in a car. any ideas?

Do you mean that the shirt was choking off the carb, and pulling in more fuel. I don't think I would want to dangle a loose shirt that close to the flywheel with it's ring gear.

yes well obviously it wasnt my intention to dangle my shirt near the engine and that was a mistake on my part, however that mistake is giving me answers in why my egine isnt running like it should. My shirt cut off the air supply to the left carb barrel, basically choking it. but if i coke the right barrel the engine dies. after thinking about it i relized that maybe a bad gasket at the intake mainfold my be letting air in that left side not through the carb barrel.

I would tend to think there is a clogged pick-up nozzle or passage on that left side. It's been so long since I've had one of those carbs apart, I will have to look at the manual.

this is probably a dumb question but the pick up is what? i imagine it is in the carbs as that is what you are talking about but as far as parts of the carb goes i am not familiar with names. I did soak the carb in carb cleaner for 2 hours and then cleaned with carb cleaner in can and compressed air, then i rebuilt with carb kit.

Looking straight down the carb throat, There is a nozzle in the center called a venturi tube. It is held down with 2 screws, and has a gasket, or O-ring under it. It extends down into the fuel supply with a brass tube. Did you remove this for cleaning? On that carb, make sure all of the core plugs, lead shot are tight, and in place.

i did remove those and every other part of the carb before i soaked them. if the core plugs are the little metal discs that plug up a bunch of holes then yes i even replaced those, every part on that carb that could be removed and cleaned had just that done to it. it made no difference in the performance of my bogging engine. not untill we cut off the air to that barrel, then it flew like a bat out of heck.
