1967 Evinrude 6hp lower unit seal question

I made a mistake in an earlier post by saying this is a Johnson motor when in fact it's an Evinrude 1967 6hp. I have one of each and forgot which motor I was asking about. I have included a picture of the lower unit from this Evinrude. My question is when I remove the gears and the shift rod, how do I remove the brass bushing to replace the o-ring (that I think is underneath the bushing)?

just saw this in my manual, it shows once the rod is removed, flip the unit over and drive the bushing out with a dowel or drift thats larger than the shift rod.

and then....drive it back in after the new seal is in there? I'm afraid!
