I picked up this little Evinrude 9.5 Speedtwin. Externally it looks very nice. Who ever had it took very good care of it. I checked the compression and it was dry check at 85/88 pounds. I didn't do a wet test. I completely rebuilt the ignition system, Cleaned the carburetor and installed a new needle and seat and new float. Repaired the shut down button back to operational. Replaced the lower unit oil and replaced the impeller. Put the engine on my little boat and a barrel of water. Spun the engine a little to confirm the impeller was operational. Got the gas up the carburetor and gave it a small shot of gas down the carburetor. She started almost the first pull. After I adjusted the fuel meter to get her to smooth out it ran amazing. I was amazed how well it ran for an engine that sat for many years. I let it run in the barrel for around an hour at 1/2 throttle. Then it started to lose rpm, Then it would gain it back again. It went on like that for about 20 minuets. I played with the mix and it seemed to help. I brought it down to a idle and it seemed to idle just fine. I shut her down and did a hot compression check and it read 80/85. I reinstalled the plugs and now I cant get it to start. Why? Oh, The water coming out of the engine felt hot but not so hot I wasn't able to hold my hand in. I kept a constant flow of cold water flowing into the barrel.

Welcome to iboats

Have you checked for Spark, it needs to be able to jump a 5/16" gap

I took it apart again and found I put to much oil on the cam wiper, Cleaned everything and replaced with just a touch of lithium grease Also found a small crack in my fuel line. Foolish me, I put in all these new parts in and (and new fuel pump) didn't replace the fuel line also. Its to hot down here in Florida to play outside so I will try it again tomorrow.
