Does a 1969 55hp with Magna Power ignition have condensors? What parts are under the flywheel...it is an alternator motor.

Re: 1969 Chrysler 55hp ignition question

magna power is a capacitor discharge system but not the same as a condenser and points ..CDI has a capacitor charged up to 300v that is discharged into the coil to give a high voltage high energy spark.
Magna power I has points as the timing device
Magna Power 2 has trigger coils.
Yes it charges the battery

Re: 1969 Chrysler 55hp ignition question

Thanks for the info. I noticed a similar thread with a common issue. After long run time I get a miss that goes away with throttle, but then will return. Everything been replaced/rebuilt (lines/pump/carb/filter/primer bulb/new fuel/plugs/checked the coils/wires/corrosion. Seems to run rich (the "miss" is more of a cough. Also after taking it out of the water there is a lot of oily/grey residue that leaks out the weep holes...smells like gas/oil. I've readjusted the float, but have not taken it out since. Could the points cause the miss/cough?
