Hello,
Looking for a little help.I just bought a 14'boat for fishing(1966)It is powered by a Johnson 40EL 69R with a ser.# J3024960.I fired this up at home with the lower end in a trash can.I didn't notice or could find a weep hole.I guessed it came out the exhaust.Today I took it out on it's shake down run and after about 15 minuets it quit running.I put my hand on the engine and didn't apear to be hot to the touch. This happened a few more times and I richened up the low speed.Ran pretty good the rest of the day.So with that,I want to replace the pump anyway,at least the impeller. The second issue is that the only means to shutting it off is to choke it.Well,I pulled the cover off and discovered a fair amount of wires had been cut.I am guessing one was to kill the magnito, one might have been for a push button choke and I am guessing the rest may have been for a charging system.I know I need a service manuel one this, but am a little shy on cash.Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!:D

Should be two black wires coming out from under the magneto (armature plate). They are the kill wires. Should go to the "M" terminals on the ignition switch. When you turn the switch "off" they ground out the points to kill the engine.
