Hi I was just wanting to know I just replaced my impellor and got nothing but steam coming out of the pee hole I was told this might be a crack in the block. could puting the impellor in backwards cause steam to come out of the pee hole I looked over the spark plugs and in the cyclinders for water and found nothing thank you.

Sure it can be put in backwards. It should still pump and theoretically the vanes should correct themselves. But I find that's not always the case. Most people slide the impeller onto the shaft and twist the driveshaft clockwise (looking down) while pushing down the impeller housing til it seats. I twist the impeller into the housing counterclockwise (looking up into it) and slide the assembly onto the shaft. That helps prevent torn vanes and a torn gasket.

Re: 1969 Mercury outboard 100 H.P

Hi thank you for the info. I pulled the lower unit back off I checked for any blocks in the tell-tale and everything seems clear. I was just wondering if I have lower unit sumerged in a drum full of water should I be able to blow through the tell-tale without any blockage or should I be turning blue. When I ran the motor for the first time after installing new impellor I got a steady stream of steam coming out of the tell tale and water was coming out of upper mid section in the front of the motor it was a pretty good amount. kinda like the lower unit was filling up on the inside mid section if you have any ideas on what I need to do to fix this I would sure be a happy camper thanks once again bockyx2

Sounds like you're not getting enough water flow for some reason. Cracked block UNLIKELY on the 89ci blocks. Check for other obstructions.
