I have 1969 Starcraft Falcon with a 40 HP Johnson. I picked it up for $200 bucks and it included a boat, motor and trailer and everything floats and works. Now that it put away for the winter, I am thinking of doing some restoration work next spring. I want to put an electric starter and radio in and I also want redo the interior. I am looking for some advice on how to do all this stuff and in what order. I currently do not like the the current seating arrangment. Right now there is bench seat that faces forward and the same bench also faces the rear "back to back". I also do not like sitting too low to the floor when i am driving. What would be a good seating arangement that would maximize the space in this boat? Should I redo the floor even though it is in fair condition? How do you wire multiple things to one battery? I am planning to wire the lights, horn, radio, elect. start and pump to one battery. How can put a radio in a small dash? should build center dash console to house the radio and speakers?

Oh buddy, a lot to cover here... in a few different forums
A picture speaks a thousand words... then we can talk about your seating.. what are you using teh boat for? fishing? fun?

The floor is in ??? condition? Soft spots? rotting wood?

Wiring is easy... Take a look at my thread, I have some wiring in there... also http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=448376 drewpster did a much cleaner job than I.

Re: 1969 Starcraft Falcon

There are a ton of restorations on here that will take you the entire winter to read and take notes from. DEFINITELY replace the floor, though, you dont want to put the time into an interior and wiring if you have to remove everything to replace the deck in two years. As for the radio....use your imagination and put it where it works for you. I can't help you too much with adding electric start but you might want to consider going to a two battery system if you plan on adding alot of accessories.

check out the johnny rude forum on this site for that modification. depending on the year, im sure it can be done.

ok.....for the wiring....most can be run from a single battery, but you really want two....really.

as for the interior......its your boat.....you can make it however you want......think of the coolest things....and we can help you make it happen !

A dual battery system might be overkill on a motor that can be somewhat easily rope-started.

sounds to me like captain kirk might eventually want to go with subs, or at least a more powerful radio.

but who cares? If it clicks, you just pull start it. This is a small boat Oops, adding a 2nd 50 pound battery is no small consideration here. If it was mine, I wouldn't add it.

My Blue Flamingo is almost the same boat, with a 40 hp Rude' and 1 battery is plenty.
