Hiya,

Still waiting for the manual, but got impatient and removed carb (have rebuild kit) and took water pump apart.... Anyway I found a problem. The spring that closes the choke butterfly is worn to the point of now having a "catch" on the end that holds the butterfly open instead of allowing it to spring closed. The spring is the one I'm pointing to in the first pict... then a closeup showing the notch worn in the end of the spring.

So, no springs come with the rebuild kit, can they be purchased separately, or do I need to bodge something?

Oh, and here's a picture of the impeller that seemed to be working OK (had a good spray at idle). The missing piece was in the water pump housing. It's pretty worn, has taken a set and is brittle!

thanks for you thoughts!

Brent

I would guess that the spring does have a part number and could be ordered IF it's still available. An OMC parts dealer could look that up I'm sure. Failing that, I'd get the O.D. of the spring wire and wind-up one of my own.

BTW, you're biggest problem isn't springs OR impellers....it's coming up with a good excuse as to why there's grease on the "Little Lady's" nice sweater dress! Just kidding and good luck finding your parts.

heh heh,

If it's in the rag box, it's fair game... but she did the same thing to me, "what have you done with my shirt!?" <pause> "gotchya".

I've already got the impeller, we'll see if local OMC folks can set me up.

Brent

it's the "choke over-ride spring" part # 359241... not available. Anyone got one they wanna part with?

Otherwise, I'll either have to make something work, or buy a carb (not likely). I wonder if I took the spring off, if I could straighten out the last coil of it to give me another 1/2" of length.. then trim off the notched piece... (?) my guess is that it might break before straightening out, but who knows.

Brent

Jack... we were about as sure as you can be over the phone that we were talking about the same spring... could your part # be for the inner spring?

Brent

Just FYI, I removed the spring and straightened 1 coil out of it (was no problem), trimmed the worn/notched end off, then reassembled. Choke works like new - at least for now!

Good news is that the manual came yesterday. Thanks for pointing me to it Paul.

Brent
