just been and checked in the workshop ,,,only 4 bolts holding the lower unit on and the vertical shift rod .( disconnect behind the lower unit covers ) ...why did you remove all the shaft seals and bearings ? Taking out the shift piviot pin is fatal as it wont always go back easily....once you have cracked the joint and got it to move down 1/16 you know its free and just a good wrestle if its not been off for a long time ...

I didn't remove any seals just pulled the plate behind the prop to get to the nut inside that holds both sections together we are trying to get the clutchdog out to check it it won't go into forward gear even when I adjusted cables linkage and checked the control box it will shift to forward and reverse by hand and with the controler nor running but running it won't go into forward the clutch dog won't grab the gear

on your original question the 4 bolts are about 4 inches above the anti ventilation plate

The long stud is corroded. You will need to heat the aluminum and hammer it out. Keep a nut on the end until it starts to move or you will ****-up the threads.

All in all, really a crappy design for something that goes in the water. It is supposed to be sealed by the gasket on the gearcase torpedo and the washer under the nut on top BUT---water always manages to work its way in..

Before you assemble it again, ream out the hole in the casting and slather the stud with anti-seize.
