I was given a boat and motor. According to the #'s on the motor it is a 1970 60 hp Johnson. I was told it has a pretty new rebuilt power head. Now the hood on it says 75 hp Evinrude. It is a 3 cyl. Is there any way of telling what the power head really is ?
Thanks for any help.
Jack
I am sure more ?'s to come.

How many ignition coils , just one or are there 3 of them ?-------Is there just one cable for throttle or 2 cables one for throttle and one for the shift.----It is possible to use a newer head on that 1970 model.

Looks like 1 coil and 1 throttle cable. It is electric shift or what ever it is called.
Thanks

Yes it is a 1970 motor. Just didn't know for sure if it had a 60 hp powerhead or not. Was wondering just because it had a 75 hp Evinrude hood on it.
Thanks

You can't use the 60hp ignition system (one coil with a distributor) on a 75hp powerhead.

You can install 3 carburetors from a 75 hp and the decals to say that it is now a 75 hp sporty model.
