Pretty sure there's a little access cover on port side with two small screws or bolts holding it on, behind that cover you'll see the shift rod link, you'll have to loosen the bolt that links the upper and lower shift rods together, then the lower will separate, at least that how it was on my old 60hp.

If it's electric shift, it doesn't have a shift rod. Could be the driveshaft is stuck in the crank, maybe rusted. You may need to soak the driveshaft splines in penetrating oil to free it. That may involve turning the motor upside down to allow the penetrating oil to get to the top of the driveshaft.

Hi Thanks for that info..

I loosened the Electric shift cables and gave the thing a BIG heave and it all came away...the impeller actually looks quite good..gonna replace anyhow..things look a bit murky there tho'..and the gear oil is black as the Ace of spades..!

Should the prop shaft rotate with the drive shaft in this situation...? If I turn the impeller shaft my prop shaft doesn't move is that correct..?

Cheers Derek

The shafts are not connected because it is in neutral. So turning one will not turn the other one.
