My 1971 55hp Chrysler Model 555HC Is driving me nuts. Ran fine till a couple of weeks ago when going across the lake it just shut off and would not restart. Thank goodness for trolling motors. The fuel pump had blown out the diaphragm. After rebuilding the fuel pump there is good pressure to the carburetor, but, it still will not run. I rebuilt the carburetor thinking some dirt may have gotten in. The motor will now start with the choke on, but as soon as the choke is released it stalls. Any suggestions?

Rebuild it again.
Sounds like crud in the slow speed jet.

SEt the air screw at 1 and 1/2 turn out.
Then adjust from there.

After taking apart the carburetor for the third time I noticed a small hole had worn in the body channel cup plug. The little plug that gives access to the idle tube inside the main fuel nozzle. After changing out the plug the motor started right up and runs strong.
