the 70-71 7.5, 9.8' and 20's coils have a small ground wires that go to the metal coil holder. i dont know if the ones in your pic will burn the stator or not but that stator aint cheap. i just bought one.look on www.boats.net there $56 each thats the cheapest i could find them

When i got the motor i noticed someone sanded the coil holder so the ground would connect. so does this mean the other coils will work? im not sure

Did you find if those cheaper coils worked on your outboard as i have the same question as you
