Re: 1971 Evinrude 50 Lark Won't Turn Over

I took the starter apart and found one of the brushes was not connected very well to it's wire. I cleaned the connection, soldered it back together, and it worked! Here's the video!! (It was too loud for my son so I was making sure he was ready.)

It was smokier than expected too. Like 2 stroke dirt bike smokey. Is that really normal? Did I just triple my carbon foot print to have a little fun on the lake?? :)

It ran good out on the lake today but we hit a big wave hard and the motor bogged out. It would idle but when I gave it gas it would bog. Nuetral and reverse was fine and then after revving it up a bit it finally went fast in forward. This happened twice, any ideas?

Clean or rebuild your carberators. They're probably gummed jets. I have the same engine.

Turned out the ... well not the fuel pump but the part inside the gas can was clogged or worn. Seemed like when we hit a big wave it would jar something loose and clog the flow of fuel. Also learned to keep the fuel line on top of the gas can and not just laying anywhere it pleases. n00b mistake :)
