'1971 merc wiring problem

20hp mercury 3141289 need to know how to wire the inside engine harness where do the wires coming from the points go? and for the stator thanks!!!!

Not quite sure where your wires go from your points but the two wire's coming off of your Stator should go to your Recitifier.Usually on your recitifier you will have 3 hook-ups top and bottom are for the wire's from stator and the center one is for 12 volts.If I am not mistaken the Stator produces 110 volts AC which is converted thru the Rectifier to 12 volt DC.That is the way it is on my 1971 Merc. 80 hp.There is a link on one of the threads here that will give you wiring diagrams of your setup.I hope this helps somewhat.I would offer more help but I am trying myself to get mine back to factory setup.Good Luck

not sure if mine even has a Recitifier all i see is 2coils 2points starter solenoid does the stator hook up on the coils? or is it the internal harness

is this it? i dont see it anywhere on my motor maybe someone took it off before i got it???? there is little room on my motor

My bad yours is totally different setup than mine.I guess there is a big difference between 20 hp motor and a 80 hp (by that I mean how its setup).Take a look here and see if there is something that relates to you.

thanks !!! I just got a new coil pack and i dropped it and it broke the ;magnet looking thing does anyone know where to buy that?

I hooked the wires up and cranked it fired twice then fried the stator I checked and rechecked b4 so i dont know what i did wrong thats another few hundred down the drain

I doubt if you hurt the ststor that sounds like the insulator blocks have you changed them?

I bought a new stator the black glue is what burnt so im assuming its toast?
