1972 25hp Evinrude Sportster: Locating Breaker Points to purchase..

It's been 6 or 7 years since I bought a set of points for this thing. It seems like i remember buying them from a local automotive store that specializes in older automotive parts. Is there a cross reference for the points over to an automobile?

I am en route to our lakehouse and I plan on calling around in the morning to see if i can locate them via automotive or boating store. I'm just trying to get my "ducks in a row" tonight for the scramble tomorrow.

If push comes to shove, I'll have to look into a next day air from the net.

There never was any car that used those points. However, there are a few auto parts stores that sell aftermarket points. Also, just about any marine parts dealer has or should have those 580148 OMC points that were used for over 20 years. iboats sells them, y'know. So I don't send you to a competitor.

Some Napa stores also may have them if you have one locally.

Yeah, NAPA can order the Sierra kits, but I prefer the OMC points. Why would you need new points if they are only 6-7 years old? Just clean them up with a point file or 200 grit wet/dry sandpaper and acetone, set them to .020" and you're ready to go.

The boat has been sitting for that long, or more. I'm not getting any spark, and I figured it would be best to just replace the points and condensers so i can at least rule them out.

I found them in town and i plan on getting them shortly. I do have another question, but I'm going to start a new post.
