First off I have to thank everyone for all the great information in these forums. It allowed me to take the old junk heap I bought at a garage sale for $100 and get her purring like a kitten without asking a single question. Btw, I bought it before I knew anything about motors. Think I would for sure buy much, much newer now.
I did a full rebuild of the carb, new fuel lines under the hood and to the tank, tank, and rebuild of the fuel pump. Carb was a mess and was missing some stuff. New coils, condensors, points plug wires and plugs. Took me 10 tries but finally got good spark. Those points are touchy. That autozone $6 spark tester is a nice little device. All fluids changed and all greased up. Nice stream of water but I am going ahead with a rebuild of water pump, or at least the impeller. I'll see when I get in there.
Now for a question- She will start with a nice easy short pull, but only with the choke all the way in (no choke) and the throttle turned to fast, right to where the lockout lever starts to hit the teeth on the rope rewinder. Don't get me wrong, she starts she starts, but seems a little too much throttle when it does. Should I just not worry about it and go fishin or is there some adjustment that I am missing? Thanks -1972 25hp johnson Model 25RL72R.
