First off I have to thank everyone for all the great information in these forums. It allowed me to take the old junk heap I bought at a garage sale for $100 and get her purring like a kitten without asking a single question. Btw, I bought it before I knew anything about motors. Think I would for sure buy much, much newer now.

I did a full rebuild of the carb, new fuel lines under the hood and to the tank, tank, and rebuild of the fuel pump. Carb was a mess and was missing some stuff. New coils, condensors, points plug wires and plugs. Took me 10 tries but finally got good spark. Those points are touchy. That autozone $6 spark tester is a nice little device. All fluids changed and all greased up. Nice stream of water but I am going ahead with a rebuild of water pump, or at least the impeller. I'll see when I get in there.

Now for a question- She will start with a nice easy short pull, but only with the choke all the way in (no choke) and the throttle turned to fast, right to where the lockout lever starts to hit the teeth on the rope rewinder. Don't get me wrong, she starts she starts, but seems a little too much throttle when it does. Should I just not worry about it and go fishin or is there some adjustment that I am missing? Thanks -1972 25hp johnson Model 25RL72R.

Figured it out- It was not right. Two screws holding the throttle control cam came loose, one fell out on the test run. 40 year old lockwashers was the problem cuz there was no way I overlooked tightening them :) Thanks for looking, try again tomorrow.

Good to see that you have figured your motor problems from previous posts. You have a fine long running motor there, and I am sure you know how to take care of it. I would suggest getting a OMC manual for your motor. They can usually be found on ebay for half price. Thanks again for posting the intricacies on finding the root problem.:) This forum has a vast database of information on many motors. That is what makes this the best place to be for any....boating...:)

Hey dude... Awesome post. I have the same motor and just started messing with it. It runs but needs some work. I have an electric start on mine that isn't working. The electric choke works but no juice making it to the starter.
My main question is do you have any advice on where to get parts?

Thanks. I noticed that iboats here has owners manuals. Gotta order one. Also, found out the starter solenoid was bad. Going to take it into a shop tomorrow. Still won't start even when pulling. Have good spark, getting gas to the housing where the diaphragms are but just won't run.

You could try:

shop.evinrude.com or www.iboats.com

for parts.
