I am beginnning a restore on a boat that has been in my family since purchased in 1972.

I am pulling the motor to upgrade to electronic distributor. I plan on taking the head off to see condition. At the least I will replace gaskets, etc...Not sure if I should rebuild since I have it out or not.

I am curious what I should do with the water jackets while I have them out.

It has a paragon V-drive. I had to replace the main gear in the gear reducer but I have never touched the actual drive. Should I go ahead and replace the clutch pack. I never had any trouble but I believe I was losing the snap on deep water pulls. Does a bad clutch pack gradually begin to slip?

I would also like to make sure I get someone to rebuild the paragon drive that is experienced.

I have already completely rebuilt and ran a dyno for the carburator.

My question in general is are their some "must do's" for a boat this age and what areas should be top prioirities. I don't have a blank check, but I don't want to have to pull the engine again for some time.

Any help would be appreciated.

The motor is a Chrysler 360. There is not enough pull distance for the distributor. The distributor is shot. Since I have to shift the motor I want to pull it and replace a nagging leak around the oil pan. The motor is all orginal and untouched. I feel like I have been on borrowed time!
