1972 Distributor/trigger issue defective??

I have uploaded some pic's in the hopes you pro's here can give me some input.I had my boat out this weekend to give her a good run and here are the results,Idles like its missing, fresh carb job,timed properly,halfway good hole shot,WOT 4800 rpm with a lttle miss.here is the kicker runs for 5 to ten minutes good and then just like someone has turned off the lights dead.Wait for five to ten minutes good to go again.When it died no spark,full battery charge.Got home looked at all my connections looked good,took off the distributor to check it out and found that the browns stuff in the distributor is all goowy and looks like it had bubbled up.So I am thinking maybe this is a problem. Testing it shows fine in the driveway.But the motor never does get real warmed up and rev. up in the driveway.So what do you guy's think???Ruling out switchbox it's brand new.

I am not sure what the brown stuff on the distributor is. Maybe grease?

The "good" news is that if the trigger is starting to fail, it will only be intermittent for a while before failing all the way.

You might run the distributor ign test in the FAQ, and see if your other ign parts check out.

Brown Stuff I am refering to is the filler Merc uses to seal up the trigger/electric parts right under the disk.I have run the tests on my switchbox and coil,recitifier and they check out good.I am not sure if the good news is that its on its way out,but such is life.Anyway chris1956 thanks for the heads up ,
