1972 evenrude 50hp

when i jumper aound the solnoid it will start. when i turn the switch off it will not start back. is this the solnoid? if so how can i test it to be sure. or is this the electronic shifter switch which is located in the foot, keeping it from starting? i would really like to have a wirring diagram if available.

The way I did it: Check continuity on the 2 battery cable size posts. Send the correct voltage, in my case 12 v to the 2 smaller posts. When voltage is sent you should get continuity!

so joe I have done the same thing and with similar results. Found the boat cheep borought it home flushed it out and jumped the selenoid to start initally. Cranked then popped off run about 10min very well. So I ordered new selenoid and now can turn over by key but no spark to plugs??? HELP...
