Bought for $50 off a guy that claimed it had compression and spark, but he didn't know how to remove flywheel so was done messing with it. Compression was there. Spark was not. I removed flywheel and it sure looked to me like new parts. I DID clean and properly set the points to .020 and was hoping that would do it. Didn't. Where would you start next? Note: I don't know a ton on outboards. Mostly self taught on small engines as more of a hobby.E1.jpgE2.jpgE3.jpgE4.jpgE5.jpgE6.jpg

process is simple..
measure ohms from plug boots to engine frame expect 4-8kohms if not plug wires are open or coil terminal connections bad/oxydized or coils HV secondaries are bad.

most of the old motors the coils are all cracked up and need replacement available on AMAZON $ or dealers $$$$$ thankfully your coils seem in good shape :)

next are condensers (capacitors) you can either replace or test appropriately with a high voltage test box with about 275VDC to see if they are shorted or leak .... replacing is usually easier
visit western region AOMCI site for great articles on capacitor testing and rebuilding
download these topics...

Leroy's has a good service article on the 9.5s ... and general info

great little motors.

compression on these is usually upper 60s and 70s not much more but they work fine

while working the magneto don't forget a drop or 2 of oil on the small felt pad rubbing on the crankshaft ) I use 2 drops of sae 90 GC oil to soak the pad.

btw try disconnecting the kill wires to the front push button and make certain the coils primaries are wired correctly to their respective points... make certain the small primary wires don't rub on the crankshaft under the coils ! tuck them in under the coils

a good book on these older motors especially concepts and mechanical stuff (book does not cover your 9622) but.... magnetos are magnetos are magnetos !! for 20$ lots of info you can download.

proper adjusting timing on the points openning is critical see video
