Backstory: I bought a 18ft center console fiberglass SeaRay, 50 hp Johnson 50ESL72C, and trailer for cheapish. Hull is in descent shape, trailer is now rewired, and motor runs. Not strong but hey, we can putt up and down the river. It has no gauges so I can't give specs yet on rpms, it has a tough time idling but I am tweaking that issue down. Starter went out this morning, so I am in the process of replacing it. So it looks like the PO broke the mounts for the starter. PO gave me a "redone" powerhead to go with it. I can't seem to find any markings on the second powerhead to identify it. From a little research it seems as though it is a Johnson 50 but it looks like a newer model. My question is this....Can I even use the second powerhead? Or simply rig up my new starter and roll with the motor I know works? Not really pressed for time, but I am in the military and really want to make the best of the little downtime I have with my family. I have rebuilt motors before but never an outboard. I will get a compression check later this week when I get a chance. Also I will put up some pics once I figure this website out. Ha. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Howdy

Pics will help a bunch along with any numbers you can find on the motor and parts. Also need to post 3 times before you can post pics.

Well I am still unable to post pics. If interested I can email them or maybe someone else can post them.

Found a number on the intake. 317503. Also has a marking, the letter M inside a square inside a circle.

See if THIS helps with photos. Pretty close to AD has, but with some extra options.
