Re: 1972 starcraft holiday Project boat

Hey guys, sorry its my first time using the forum and i am just figuring it out. I joined because i am considering purchasing a 1972 starcraft holiday 18 feet. It is all stripped down and has nothing except a trailer. I have never restored a boat before but i lovd boats and enjoy fixing things. I just dont have a lot of experience with the wiring as well as a ball park estimate of how much money it would cost to fix the boat up. Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated!

Sure, you can make it any way you want! Though, cutting out the bow you'll lose structure that was built in at the factory. You'll want to somehow accommodate for that structure loss by building new in.

Center consoles look sexy and I used to think I wanted one, but in reality they're a PITA. They take up too much room, they're "in the way", and the seating options on a CC boat suck.

A single side console is a better option for more room and seating choices.

Restoring a boat take a lot of time and money, something most students don't have... but you may be different.

Restoring the 18' StarC. would take so much time I think you would lose interest in it before too long being a first timer, I suggest you start with something smaller and work your way up to the SC.

thanks for the responses! and yeah i was afraid it might be too much to handle, but my summer is coming up and a few buddies i have been talking to want to help with it. we have experience in tig welding which i would build the center console or side console out of aluminum and weld it up. and i wouldnt do a full restoration because i dont have the money too. my goal is to have a solid fishing boat for the bay, but im still doing research to figure things out. i definently dont want to bite off more than i can chew with this project.

jig, I will disagree, but it all a matter of personal preference. Love the walk around room and seating room in the Mariner.

I do agree that converting that boat is probably not the best choice of a first project. Don't know your skill pack, if your as good and fast as dozer then go for it.

A tinny yes, but find one that with a little work could be on the water this summer. Quick rehab and a lot of summer fun are what you should be looking for.
