Hey everyone!
im brand new to this forum. i joined because i am looking into buying a 1972 starcraft holiday. the boat is in good shape but is completely gutted just boat and trailer. i would have to find a motor and do all the wiring. i have never done a boat restoration before, but was just wondering how difficult it is to rewire and restore this boat? it looks like everyone here does a fantastic job in restoring the boats! also i dont know how much money i would have to spend to get this baby on the water? any advice would be awesome!
i also could be posting this in the wrong spot i dont really know haha

Is it inboard or outboard? What kind of price are you looking at? Boats without engines are just about free here because it costs so much to find a running unit.

If it's an outboard you can get on the water pretty cheaply even with a bad outboard as you can sell the old one for parts and pick up another solid used one. An inboard with issues is another story as the parts aren't the cheapest and the leg might need looking at as well.

If you've got some pics then get them posted as you'll get a lot of help here as you've found the right forum.

Re: 1972 Starcraft Holiday

hey guys there is no motor on it as of yet. he took out the inboard outboard motor so there is nothing. i was just going to buy a used longshaft 40 hp or so and through that on there because the transom is thick. i would just have to plug the hole where the old motor went. i wish i was getting it free but im paying 250 for boat and trailer so i thot it was a pretty good deal. picking it up this friday and thats when the project begins haha. if you have any other comments or tips for me anything would be appreciated. thanks so much!

250 is a fair price. Throwing an OB on would be the way to go unless you can find a cheap donor boat with all the IO stuff intact. Don't forget to post up some pics when you bring it home :D

when i looked at it to my suprise the transom looked like it was in good shape. and ya im picking it up friday so i will post pictures. and i have a 5 hp mercury kicker to put on it and there is a bracket already mounted but i might have to get a new one i havent looked at it closely. im cant wait to start the project. what would you guys suggest i start on first? i mean i found a nice 40 hp johnson for 300 bucks i was going to buy but i wasnt sure if i should wait and redo the boat and buy the motor last or something.

probably a better idea to get a motor and make sure its a runner before you start just so you know which direction youre going in,thats my 2cents anyways.
