You sure picked a toughy to rebuild for your first one!
I wish I could help..... I don't think anyone will have a repair manual that they can email you since they're copyrighted but you can look at a parts manual on crowleymarine.com or shopevinrude.com

ok thanks jbj, that should help i know i need a couple parts right off the bat, so at lest i can look and order by number.

today i took the carb off (dirty!) and removed the screw that holds the throtle arm thingie under the flywheel. all i really NEED to get to is the top of the water tube(it pulled out), and install a new seal and push nut. but while i am removing the motor from its shell i may-as-well clean/replace/repair and problems i can find. there really doesnt look like there is a lot of stuff i need to disconnect to free the motor itself from the housing, fuel line, throtle, s/s knob(i just left the wire thingie on the carb and swung it out of the way), pull rope and all the mounts, i should have it out tomorrow if eveything gos ok:rolleyes:

these are pics of the throtle arm/screw i thought i was strange that it was a flat drive round head, i couldn't get a wrench on it. lucky the slot in the head of the screw was turned just right where i could turn it with the screwdriver on a 90o, once i turned it about 1/10 i was able to get it out by hand ;)

Yep, especially since you had a problem getting the throttle part off. No need to remove that. You would have really been in over your head if you had attempted to do the water tube thing.

yeah i thought i could remove the fuel, throtle, choke and strater rope, and just unbolt, then slide it up
there is little more to it then that!

anyway i bouht a nice 9.9(runing!) and sold the 73 to a guy on c-list that was trying to rebuilt the same exect motor, having a hard time finding parts

mine had alot of nice parts, so i am glad i sold it to someone thats gonna use it for parts not waste there time tryin to fix the water tube
