1973 Merc 9.8 condensor

I have a 1973 Merc 9.8 110 I need a new condensor serial # 3451716 . Every where I look I see " discontinued " for a new one . Can I just put your run of the mill auto parst store condensor in its place ? Any one got any pointers ?

I have done called them. They say they do not have one . That is the answer I am getting from most places. I have called about every vintage Merc dealer on the internet.

I don't think the '73 has condensers. They had gone to the troublesome low-tension magneto by then with the maker point ignition. Might be why you're coming up empty with your search. Post your serial and we'll see if we can't verify the year for you...

They have a condensor it is held on by two phillips screws ,the wire goes up to module under the flywheel , It is on the tiller side of the block .
