That's a great motor for the 18' hull. I have a much older version on my 18' Chieftain and it's a little beast. With your lightweight build it'll be perfect. You probably already know this but the OMC 3 cylinders were one of the best 2 stroke outboards ever made.

That's what I have heard, and I have had a couple in the past that lived up to that reputation!
I have a 14x17 alum prop, I will see how it does then I might go to a 19-20 pitch?

I was going to put a new fourstroke on it but its WAY more green than I want to spend on this boat.

Ya, exactly. I still want to do it but I need to kill my 70 first...may never happen.

Thanks! It's a 13 1/4 x 17 stainless. Top end is 5600 RPM, cruise is 3800-4200. I can barely hit 30 mph but yours will be faster, likely 35+. Good hole shot with that prop, too.

HELP!! I made a BIG mistake,I threw my side panels out when I gutted her!
where those made out of 10-12 foot sheets at the fact,I would know if I kept my originals.
would an 8' piece be enough support?

That's what we replace our old rotten ones with. You have 2 choices, start at the helm with the panels and where they end they end. Or you can patch in the extra amount and once covered with vinyl you won't be able to tell. If you look at the 18' builds you'll see most guys just call the 8' good.

I just drug out and measured the original side panels from my SS and they're 9' exactly.

I should be good with 8', I would love to leave the side seats out and just have the splash well, any thoughts on that?
THANKS for digging out the old one and doing that.

My SS rebuild won't be having the jump seats on either side of the spashwell. Although I plan on fabricating frame work for a rear casting deck with access hatches for the battery, bilge and trim pump. You Holly like my SS is a blank slate for you to build back the way you want.
