Ok everyone, here's the lowdown so far, I have removed everything from the boat and pressure washed the hull inside and out. So far things look ok, there is some staining and minor roughness but overall I think things should be ok. I'd like to run a few ideas by you folks and see what you think, first off this is going to be a serious fishing boat most likely I will be converting it to a center console. I also have to make it very easy to get in and out of because I mostly fish with a couple of ol' farts (no disrespect intended). I'm am considering raising the floor about six inches, this would make it easier to get in and out of, provide more storage under the floor and allow for additional flotation, also I am thinking about adding scuppers? to the transom and the sides near the rear of the boat. I was thinking of moving the existing stringers to the sides and then have a new higher pair made for the the location of the original ones, comments? I would also like to make a swimstep/bait tank

Looks like your making good progress if you decide not to reuse the side comsoles and windshield hng onto them as someone here might be interested in them to convert a holiday into an SS.

Dang, look at all that floor space:eek: you could put a dance floor in there! WOW that will make an awesome CC , but you will need an intercom system to talk from front to back :D LOL

ok, I have picked out the colors.......... trusty rusty hammered gray with black and red pinstriping and accents, the seats will be recycled office chairs hopefully in a light gray color, I am thinking of building the center console and dog house out of aluminum diamond plate......we'll see maybe too much $$$. I picked up some gluvit, mek, masking tape and paint today maybe I'll get a little done tomorrow and paint on monday or tuesday...

no comments yet on raising the floor, come on people lets brainstorm, I need to make a decesion on this fairly quickly as putting the floor in will be coming up shortly, and i'm not sure how long it will take to get a pair of higher stringers made. Thanks in advance, Pete

Pete insted of raising the whole deck why not just build a rod locker and storage box along one side . Thaat could double as a step into the boat to make it easier for the Old Farts :D to get in and provide storage or a livewell or both .

Why not put a hatch in the floor and make a slot going up the middle.
Drill 3-4 holes up towards the bow in a cross piece with pvc as a cushion for the tips. I,m just saying....

Re: 1974 21' Starcraft Supersport I/O

ok guys,
Here are some pics of my western 16.5 and the mods I did to her, as you can see it was so easy to get into for these guys, step off the launch ramp dock into and on the one step then onto the deck and one or two steps and they were in their chair. Both of these guys are pushing 75 and one has had a stroke and has balance problems the other has issues too, so it's imperative that they can almost fall into their chair in the boat. The 16.5 had maybe 14" from the deck to the top of the gunwales the supersport has about 30". What about a folding step like the ones on a motorhome or trailer??? As far as the cost and amount of work to raise the deck I'm going to find out what a new pair of stringers will cost, they shouldn't be too much just 2 pieces of sheet aluminum about 14' x 11" with 2 bends and I would think it would be pretty simple drill out the pop rivets holding the existing stringers in place move them to the sides of the boat and install the higher stringers in the oringinal location..... we'll see. As far as cleaning the inside of the hull before applying Gluvit all I have done is pressure wash it do I need to use a cleanser or chemical such as acetone or MEK? Also I need to get the dimensions for a motor mount for the inline 6/165 mercruiser and has anybody used the garage floor 2 part epoxy before? I was thinking maybe for the deck??? Thanks in advance, Pete

Re: 1974 21' Starcraft Supersport I/O

ok progress report,
I fixed a missing rivet sanded and primed areas that needed it and shot the first coat of white on the entire boat used a full gallon of trusty rusty, my poor little 6 gallon compressor got one hell of a workout. I got a quote on a new pair of aluminum stringers $415 + tax, ouch! that won't be happening at least not from that shop. So I'm considering buildng a wood subframe from 2x matierial like I did on the 16.5' western, the cost would be in the $50 range more to my budget. Tomorrow I plan on shooting the second coat of white, picking an accent color and maybe paint the trailer we'll see......:)

Re: 1974 21' Starcraft Supersport I/O

Update!!!!!
We have color! I have the outside of the boat painted, and the trailer is painted as well, I got another quote on the new higher stringers...$290 might go with that still working on if I should raise the floor or not. Also Iam still in need of some info as the boat was disassembled when I purchased it. I'm looking for the measurements for the wood motor mount and in general how it is installed in the boat, also the inside gunwale panels? are they screwed/riveted to the floor and the the side/top of the boat? The pictures are as follows as purchased, painted and painted with computer generated graphics............Pete
