I have a 1974 85HP Merc. 4 Cyl. and my throttle cables do not hook up. The engine is the same year model as the one the controls came off of. But they won't go back on the "new" engine I bought to go back on it. The only difference I can see is the color of the cowling (one has a little red in it, the other is all black and blue) and the shifter. The new shifter has one hookup, and the old one had two seperate places to hook them up (one throttle and one shifter) Please help me figure this out.<br />

you have 2 cables comming from the cont. box (1 for shifter )that is the lower one,and then there is the 2 nd cable for trottle cont.that is the upper/top cable. both have to be adj.and clamped properly.both cables enter on the port side of the eng.

I am soooo dumb. I found out what I was doing wrong. The throttle cable was broken, so I was wondering from the get go. Anyways, Thanks for the reply. I should have it in the water tomorrow!!!
