Hello

I have a 1974 johnson 50 hp twin which runs well, recently I noticed some play in the flywheel and as far as I can tell I need to replace the upper crank bearing. Can this be done by removing the flywheel or will I have to remove the powerhead and split the cases?

Any info will be apprichiated Thanks.

I am not sure on your model, but I think you can get it out from the top, with jaw pullers. Either way the flywheel has to come off.......so pop it off and take a peak.

I removed the flywheel, stator and stator plate. Half of the bearing is above where the cases join together so I assume if I can get the old one out that the new one presses in from the top. Thanks
