Hello,

Just picked up this pontoon with a 75 40hp evinrude, model 40555C. I am going to be freshing up this motor, been sitting for a while. I have ordered the factory manual to aid in this. But in the mean time can anyone give me a little info on this motor?

I am looking for the following info,

1. Recommended spark plugs and plug gap.
2. Recommened gear fluid for the bottom end.

Thanks for any help you can supply!

Welcom Tac!

Spark plug is a Champion UL81C set at .030.

Gear lube, lot of the stuff out there. Just make sure it's for mechanical shifts and not electric. Your local J/Rude dealer would probably recommend Hi-Vis or Ultra Hi-Vis.

Fuel mix is 50:1....16oz oil to 6 gal of gas. Make sure the oil is TCW-3 rated.

You may also consider replaceing the water pump impeller (or get a pump kit and replace the whole thing) and t-stat.

Re: 1975 40hp Info needed

OBJ,

Thanks for the fast response. That was the info I needed. Now I have another question, how hard is it to access the impeller? I have looked at the parts sheets and it does not look like a terrible job, but i have never done it before.
