I have located a 1975 85HP Evinrude motor. I am looking at this for a 24' pontoon boat.

I have not looked at the motor yet, but was just wondering how durable these motors are? Did they have any problems that I should be looking for? Do these have electronic ignition?

They are very good motors. Simple and not high-strung. One of our better sellers at the time. If they had any notable problems, it would be the water pump impeller that would spin the hub. I suggest replacing it, and the whole kit. The newer ones have a plastic pump housing with stainless steel liners. Much better than the aluminum ones it replaces.

Yes, it has electronic igniton. One of the better ones.

Now for the loaded question......

Would this motor be worth $350 if it has good compression?

If it runs and has good compression yes. If it also has tilt and trim absolutely. Overall condition has a lot to do with it though. If it looks totally wore out on the outside then the inside is probably worse. If it looks in overall good condition I would go for it.
