1975 Evinrude 115 HP - Choke question

The Electric choke stopped working today on my 115 hp. Motor starts fine manually.
Question is , can I test it using 12 volts or is that too much voltage for the solenoid.
I figured I would remove it from the motor and test it first before I check wiring.

This is just my opinion because I can't say for sure my answer is 100% correct, but I have the same motor (mine is 1974 but identical I believe) and I would have to say you would test it with 12 Volts. I can't think of anything that would reduce the voltage to the choke solenoid and I have a factory manual and looked at the wiring diagram and I can't see anything in the diagram that would reduce the voltage. It sure looks like it operates on 12V, and I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't. And if it was my motor I wouldn't hesitate to hook up jumper wires from a 12V source to the solenoid without even removing it to test it.

ALL THAT BEING SAID........AGAIN everything above is basically just my opinion. Proceed at your own risk. And let me know how it goes in case mine ever goes bad. LOL

It's 12 Volts, put a voltmeter across the solenoid terminals & get someone to activate the choke for you to see if it's getting power.
