I took a little bit of video of my boat and motor last time I went to the lake. I'm wondering if this is all the speed I should be getting out of my rig. Right now I think it's topping out around 20mph according to my GPS. It's a 15'4" fiberglass boat. It's rated for a 60hp max. I'm obviously running a 50hp with no power tilt and trim. Here's a link to the video on youtube. The first video shows the motor running and the boat so you can see what type of boat I'm dealing with. Sorry about the glamor shots! I had just put a couple coats of clearcoat on it! The second video is just the motor from slow idle to WOT.

Thanks guys!

I get about 35mph (GPS) in the same size boat with a 1974 85HP. This seems about right.

Cool. Well I'm wondering if I should trim it up to the next hole. It ride really level right now but the wake is being thrown out just in front of the driver's seat. Shouldn't it ideally be near the back of the boat?

Oh I've already fixed that! The previous owner apparently took it apart and forgot to put the spring back in the linkage! That video for a previous problem, but it's useful to show others what your linkage shouldn't be doing!

sounds like its running good but you will need tach to know if your reaching wideopen throttle. but thats probaly all you will get speed wise
your boat is probaly pretty heavy ,i have a 17ft mckee with a 150
running boysens and it runs 57 at 5800 it rated at 140 hp it is a type of tri hull with design in front like yours your boat sounds good but you will never
know what rpm your at without tach .nice boat .

Looks and sounds good to me. Maybe a bit low on RPM, but that's hard to guess at from here.

How high is the motor on the transom and do you really need that rubber tail?
