I put my boat in the water for the first time after a friend gave it to me and I was told that that the impeller might need to be changed. How can you tell if the impeller is in fact not working properly?

The engine will over heat very soon, you won't be able to touch the lower unit. You should see water coming out of either a pee line or the exhaust port.

Thank you for the reply... There is no pee hole and my friend doesn't think enough water is coming out. We rode for about 30 minutes through a harbor (5mph)...He thinks I should replace it just to be sure, good idea?

You should change the impeller every couple years as routine maintenance. I?m not sure if year 75 has a thermostat for that moto,r if so you would see a steady stream of water coming out it would be more like mist or droplets of water.

Would or wouldn't see a steady stream? I see water dropping out, but not that much.

Here is the part # for the impeller 0377230 . I do not think this has a thermostat so you should be seeing a steady stream of water. But I?m not 100% on that.

Oh, great, thank you. Is this part number for impeller only or a kit? I saw a couple of kits online. The stream of water you are referring to, is it called a "pisser?" I was told my motor doesn't have a "pisser"
