I noticed that on my 1975 6hp that i don't have a pee hole. Is the water suppose to be coming out of the water outlet and exhause relief? I haven't seen water come out the discharge either. Isn't suppose to come out after the thermostat reaches a certain temp? Is it suppose to come out when idiling or only when in gear.

water should be coming out of the exhaust hole, middle of the dog leg. water should be coming out rather strong.

You should see at least a spray out of the exhaust relief. It will be a lot stronger at higher RPM's and when the stat opens.

Run it with the cover off and check the upper cylinder head temp. You should be able to hold your fingers on there for a few seconds without getting burned.

If you do not know when the impeller was changed, you're overdue.

Yeah I will be ordering a few parts tomorrow. Can there be a blockage some how in the cooling system? And dkon your engine looks and runs mint. She's a beaut lol.... Where is a good place to get parts? Or what websites? Thanks again

Unburned fuel / oil, normal. Did you have a spray outta that hole?

I don't think any water came out. Someone advised me to get a impeller. Could it be the thermostat thats the problem? Or Can there be a blockage some how in the cooling system? And what is a good website to get parts?

That motor should discharge water any time it is running, regardless of the thermostat position. Reason: There are two water passage routes through the powerhead, and the thermostat only controls one route. The other one always flows.

Don't even consider exotic things like blockages ect, till you go in and examine/replace the water pump. The most logical things alwaysw come first.

Hmm....How far down in the water is your lower unit?? Kinda hard to tell with the pic the have....

So today i took off lower unit and inspected the impeller. I took a few pictures of it. I noticed one of the vanes were snapped. Do you think this is my problem with the water not circulating and coming out of water discharge? Also when I was inspecting it i realized it was So filthy, should it be this dirty? Also i disassembled the thermostat and it was destroyed. What would/could be the culprit? Thanks guys for bein so helpful

it looks like the motor was run in salt water, and not flushed properly? taken apart many freshwater motors and none looked like yours. i would clean it all up, replace the water pump, impeller, wear plate and gaskets. new stat and gasket too. flush the motor out with a hose, from the water tube, and t stat housing, and from the exhaust hole too. make sure all the passage ways are clear before putting the motor back together. jmho

Yeah it has been in salt water most of its life. This gunk is really hard to clean up! Anyways how do you flush out the system? Do I need to get a adapter or hose attachment? And while i was taking apart the driveshaft i either broke or bent the seal support pin. Could I messed anything up on the lower bearing seal? Did the pin snap, I took a pic of it?

On the website it says the seal support pin is 3/4" long. Mine is 1/2". Does anyone with exp with this engine or similar know how long the seal support pin is? Thanks

will answer two questions......a broken impeller will cause it to not pump water.....replace it.
irregardless of the lenght of the roll pin,it should be replaced....its $3.99.
