We have a 140hp Chrysler outboard "new to us" We think it sat for 10 years without being started. We have removed the old fuel and checked all the plugs but when we try to start it, it turns over but there is no spark to any of the spark plugs. We are not sure what test to run to figure out what needs to be repaired. Can you please advise, we would really love to get this running sooner than later. Thank you for your help and thank you for this forum.

Please post the serial # and model #. What type of ignition? Is it a Magnapower or what? Does it have points? First thing to check is ALL of the electrical connections, paying particular attention to any ground wires. Make sure everything is clean and making solid electrical contact. Good luck and welcome aboard...

As a 1976 it should have a distributor. If it has a distributor and also has points, set the points to .010 after cleaning them.

I believe I have the same motor. I am having problems with the lower unit. I try to put it in forward or reverse and it just grinds. Do I have to replace the lower unit or can I replace just the gears? Hard Hard, Hard to find parts
