1976 Johnson Seahorse, 55 hp,good compression, cold start problem,so here goes, hadn't been started for at least 2 plus years...drain all fuel, replaced fuel lines, cleaned plugs, attempted to start , eventually got it fired up and it ran "oK',got it to idle reasonably well, stopped and re-started several times at the first turn of engine no worries...Excellent... thought i was on the right track, final test was to start it the next morning...bugger....no go...checked plugs..saturated with fuel..ok, my fault i flooded it,or so i thought...clean plugs, wound over to expell excess fuel from cylinders..replaced plugs...fired up but not as quick as i ecpected but then ran ok once going...ok so i think another cold start the next day with no choke and very minimal fast idle....no start and saturated plugs,i mean dripping wet with fuel...replaced plugs with new ones..still no go...carby time, removed both carbys, dismantled both carbs, both are in pristine condition, no foreign matter needles and seats show no obvious wear,99% sure it's excess fuel but how and where ????any help/suggestions would be much appreciated..Cheers Brian..

job fixed ...needles were worn enough to let fuel through ...hardly noticeable to the naked eye, point of interest.....the replacement needle/seats have a modification, this consists of a keeper which attaches to the needle and slides over the float arm, thus not allowing the floats to stick at all...Cheers Brian M

fwiw, I've never been able to distinguish brand spanking new float needles from worn.
