Hi All: First time out after restoration, I had two significant problems. First, the motor overheated while doing some circles and cruising in a cove. Hot light came on and engine died. After a few minutes, it started up and we cruised again with no issues until coming into a marina idling. Died once again, no heat light on this time. I pulled the motor cover and found no fuel in the fuel filter (put an inline filter in betw. fuel pump and carbs). My brother primed with the bulb and it restarted. It ran and seemed to be okay at higher rpm's.
Here's the history--new fuel pump diaphragm and impeller last 30 days along with carb cleaning. Set timing by static method at 32 degrees btdc. New plugs and wires also. Interestingly, I bought motor and it had a blown head gasket ,which I replaced. Sounds to me like I haven't caught the problem that may have caused that issue?? I have not changed the thermostat either. I feel pretty good about the impeller installation, but I may have not set the "vanes" in the correct direction? Water is coming out of the "tell tale". Is there a relationship between the fuel depravation and overheating? Looking for ideas.....Thanks!
